By the late 1970s, it had transformed from a grand theatre to a vaudeville house, and finally a movie theatre. It is owned and operated by the Lexington Center Corporation. An American architect Oscar Cobb designed the opera house. The theater opened to the public on July 19th, 1887, with a seating capacity of approximately 1,000.
